His mother, Idona Rados, was a beautiful woman with long dark hair and blue eyes. She was free-spirited and exciting -- a bit of a wild child -- which attracted the favor of two men, Athor Tolla and Acastus Kolya.
Athor and Acastus had met in the military academy and became fast friends. They even served in the same regiment which led them to becoming as close as brothers. And like most brothers, they were competitive with each other, both pursuing Idona who they'd met at a harvest ceremony.
Being true to her nature, Idona enjoyed the company of both men and refused to choose between them -- mainly because she couldn't make up her mind, loving both equally. However, Athor wasn't satisfied with the apparent love triangle and made his intentions clear to his best friend -- that Idona was more than just a passing interest -- in the hopes he'd bow out.
Acastus reluctantly agreed to stop seeing Idona. Though when he went to break things off with her, it didn't go as expected and he found he couldn't honor his agreement with Athor. Therefore, he began seeing Idona in secret. But about a month later, Idona discovered she was pregnant and was forced to decide between the two men after all.
While Idona loved both Acastus and Athor, like any mother, she wanted what was best for her child and she wanted it to grow up free to discover who it was. That was something she just couldn't see happening with Acastus. He was a firm disciplinarian and she feared him oppressing or breaking the child's spirit, molding it into a rigid automaton. But with Athor, despite being a military man like Acastus, his nature was more gentle and loving. He was best suited to help rear her child, nurturing it into the being it was meant to become. Though despite her best intentions, the irony was, Idona would hinder her child from full self-discovery by never revealing his birth father to him.
Idos was born roughly 8 months after Idona and Athor married. But Idona's choice in a husband didn't prevent Acastus from having a vested interest in the boy's upbringing and he was named as Idos' godfather on Athor's insistence. Idos loved both his parents and adored his father as a child, mimicking nearly everything the man did in order to be like him. But Athor encourage his son to find his own way and as Idos got older, his adoration would turn into respect. He even admired Acastus who taught him a lot of 'cool' tricks in regards to hunting and self defense. But that admiration would sour into resentment later on in Idos' adult life. About 2 years after Idos' birth, his sister Idalis was born. The two of them would become close, especially as Idos reached manhood. Of course there was the customary teasing of the younger sibling and the tormenting of the baby sister in general -- and vice versa -- while they were kids, but Idalis became Idos' confidant and his touch stone. He considered her to be his best friend and sometimes she was the only one to help keep his sanity, especially after the death of his wife. And when his nephew Idolis was born, Idos instantly became the proud and doting uncle. His sister and young nephew are the most precious jewels in Idos life, and their protection and safety means the world to him. Other than his sister, the only other person who Idos felt truly understood him was the woman he married -- Enver Kathel. She was like a breath of fresh air in Idos life, his reason for being, and his soulmate. Enver had such a capacity for caring and giving that it amazed him. And while their relationship was brief, it was no less a passionate one. Idos loved Enver dearly and still carries her memory in his heart. Background Information Personality: Idos is a bit of a fun loving free spirit -- a character trait which he inherited from his mother -- and was seen as a problem child in his youth. He's often viewed as a rogue with a devil may care attitude and not having the ability to take things seriously, switching his allegiances at a whim. He's' gone from supporting Cowen, to Kolya, back to Cowen, to Radim. All which puts his accountability -- and like wise -- his trustworthiness in question.
But he's loyal to his family and people, acting in accordance to what he believes to be in their best interests -- although that's not always mutually exclusive, causing Idos to make some hardline decisions which may make him appear callous. Though when it comes to the safety and security of his family, Idos can be quite ruthless -- a character trait he got from his biological father.
Idos is very sure of himself and his abilities which many have interpreted as cockiness. But the fact is, like any good military man, he knows his limitations which is an important factor when it comes to survival. He's under the guise there are two types of people in the Pegasus galaxy -- victims and survivors. He was raised to be survivor and he'll do whatever's necessary to ensure that. Though, underneath it all, he has an innate charm with a romantic core, occasionally tilting at those windmills
Likes: Sports, hunting, women (naturally), Genii corn whiskey, Atlantean beer, the pursuit of knowledge, strategic and analytical games (anything to sharpen his mind), sparring, meditation, Pugna Tripudio (a Genii version of Tai Chi), and just having fun in general.
Dislikes: Idos hates to be deceived and lied to. That's probably why he's so good as a covert agent, able to cut through and detect the bullshit easily. He's not a big fan of harvest ceremonies and he doesn't like cats -- though he claims they're great with a good side dish like french fries.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Idos gets his greatest strength from his family. They're what keeps him grounded. But they're also his greatest weakness and can be used as a leveraging tool against him.
Quirks/Habits: Idos is known to have a mischievous streak and will occasionally lift an item off a person he's speaking to just to prove he can as well as to annoy them. He also -- subconsciously -- has the habit of rapping his ring against a solid object (such as a table) to the point of becoming annoying whenever he's deep in thought ... or bored. Sexual Preference: Straight/Heterosexual
History: For the natives of the Pegasus galaxy, life has never been easy due to living with the constant threat of a Wraith culling. And it's difficult to find anyone who hasn't been affected by them in some way. The people of the Genii have not been an exception to this and neither has Idos Tolla.
The eldest child and only son to Idona and Athor Tolla -- a soldier in the Genii military -- Idos learned to handle firearms at an early age. Athor also schooled his son in hand-to-hand combat as well as how to track and hunt along with other basic survival skills. Things Athor felt young Idos would need to know to ensure his son's continued existence against the Wraith or any enemy of the Genii people. Though despite living under the shadow of the Wraith, for the most part, Idos had a happy childhood and was a bit of a wild child, generally getting into mischief. He was forever curious and if something got his attention, he'd take it -- whether it was his or not -- to examine it and see what made it tick. This led to an uncanny ability with slight of hand, misdirection, and pick pocketing. And to top it all off, Idos had a knack of getting into and out of places without detection. All these abilities would eventually serve him well in his military career. Idos' father was the best friend of the infamous Genii military commander Acastus Kolya. Therefore, Idos was used to having "uncle" Acastus coming around. And sometimes when Kolya came to visit, he would bring his eldest son Erastus with him. Erastus was only 2 years younger than Idos, so the boys enjoyed playing together. However, with Idos penchant for getting into trouble, he was sure to enlist Erastus into one of his 'adventures' -- that was when he could pull the boy out of his staunch shell. The end result was always the same though, if they got caught -- or Erastus spilled the tava beans since he'd never disobey a direct order from his father -- they'd both be punished with Erastus receiving the lion's share of it. Kolya was a strict disciplinarian and Idos had seen him take the strap after the Erastus on more than one occasion. As Idos got older, most of the trouble he got into revolved around the fairer sex. And on the few instances he and Erastus got together, Idos would inevitably rope the younger boy into being a participant in his hijinks, whether he was willing or not. Idos did this mainly because he felt Erastus was wound too tightly and needed to loosen up. Therefore, one night -- with Erastus as look out -- both boys were nearly shot by an angry farmer who didn't take kindly to Idos sneaking in through his twin daughters' bedroom window to pay a late night visit. While it's an incident Idos still laughs about, it marked one of the last times the boys saw each other on a social basis. Idos was the polar opposite of Erastus, representing chaos to Erastus' sense and love of order. He perceived Idos as reckless and that coupled with Kolya's disapproval -- as well as disappointment -- of Idos, influenced Erastus to distance himself from his childhood friend. As soon as he was eligible at the age of 17, Athor enrolled his son in the military academy to get a hold on the boy's rebellious nature. Though while the academy taught Idos temperance, he never completely lost his cavalier attitude. But one thing became abundantly clear to his instructors, Idos demonstrated an exceptional ability for memorization -- with a near photographic memory -- as well as a keen and analytical mind, ripe for intelligence gathering. That, along with the other skills Idos developed during his misspent childhood, made him a natural for espionage. Rather than wasting those qualities in the infantry, after graduating the academy and completing basic, Idos began his training in special ops and for his service as a Genii spy under the tutelage of Commander Kolya. It was an occupation Idos was well suited for.
At the age of 24, Idos participated in a small covert mission to gather intel regarding rumors of a proposed plan of attack on the Genii homeworld by the warring Dynex. With forces already spread thin in fighting them, a small and untested strike team was hastily cobbled together comprised of five men which included Idos, his father Athor, and Acastus Kolya. Of those men, only three of the five had had any specialized training which may have accounted for the disastrous outcome of the raid. While they retrieved the intel, two members of the team were killed, and Athor was severely wounded in securing the Dynex battle plans.
Idos and Kolya barely managed to escape with Athor and their lives, turning the plans over to the waiting Chief Cowen at a Genii outpost. While Athor's injuries were severe, they were survivable pending surgery, but he'd lost a lot of blood and was in dire need of a transfusion. Idos immediately volunteered to supply his father with the needed elixir of life only to be informed his blood type didn't match. He then turned to Kolya in the hopes he'd be able to provide the much needed transfusion, but discovered the Genii Commander's blood type matched his own. That's when Idos -- along with his father -- learned the true nature of his parentage. Idos was the illegitimate son of Acastus Kolya. The results of Kolya's revelation were devastating, not only for Idos, but for Athor as well. He died with the knowledge his only son wasn't even his and that the man he'd loved like a brother had betrayed him. Idos was livid to think those were his father's last thoughts and he could have killed Kolya with his bare hands for the man's lack of tact. It was something he would resent the Commander for for the rest of his life -- breaking his father's heart -- and he would never recognize the man as anything other than a donor to his genetic make up. Despite the tragic events surrounding Athor's death, Cowen proclaimed him a hero of the Genii people for his part in acquiring the Dynex attack plans. Because of that, the Genii were able to launch a first strike counter offensive which prevented the lose of many Genii lives. Athor received a hero's funeral and Idona moved in with Idalis -- at her insistence -- and her new husband. As the war with the Dynex continued, the Genii began looking for ways in which to end hostilities completely. That led to the notion of a doom's day weapon and work eventually began on developing an atomic bomb. Though when the war finally ended, instead of the annihilation of the Dynex the program continued and shifted gears to the complete eradication of the Wraith. One of the scientists on the project was a very attractive young woman by the name of Enver Kathel. When she and Idos met, it was love at first sight for the both of them. She was enchanted by him and saw his pathetic attempts to get her attention as endearing. And he was totally smitten with her and bugged her incessantly -- even though it wasn't necessary in her mind -- until she agreed to go out with him. From there, it was only a matter of time before they were married. With the Dynex war over, Idos' services as an espionage agent became less in demand and he was subsequently transferred to Cowen's elite squad. While that meant fewer missions offworld, Idos was content with that as it gave him more time to spend with his new bride. However, that didn't mean he was out of covert ops entirely. When Cowen commissioned Kolya to train a highly skilled strike team, Idos' name was near the top of Kolya's list of recruits, along with Ladon Radim and Sora -- Erastus was naturally first on the list, but his involvement would be short lived due to injuries he sustained at the hands of the Wraith. Kolya's request for Idos presented the Genii Chief an opportunity to insert one of his elite soldiers into Kolya's inner circle. Even though he commissioned Kolya personally, and held the Commander's skills in high regard, it didn't mean he trusted the man. Idos dutifully -- yet begrudgingly -- accepted his new orders and began reporting back to Cowen privately. A week before the strike team was deployed in the siege of Atlantis, Enver took ill and was hospitalized. She had been sick for some time and had managed to hide her condition from everyone. But now her health was deteriorating rapidly and Idos was granted leave to be with her. However, Kolya had fully expected Idos to be among the reinforcements sent by Cowen to take Atlantis. Instead, he remained firmly planted at Enver's bedside while Kolya's youngest son, Septus, was sent in his place. A week following the failed Atlantis mission, Idos lost the love of his life, just days shy of their first wedding anniversary to cancer. In a twist of fate, Enver's death probably prevented Idos from being smashed against the Atlantis gateshield -- in effect, sacrificing herself to save him. Idos' grief soon to turned to outrage when he learned the Atlanteans had warned Cowen months earlier about the inadequacy of the shielding around the atomic weapons. Despite the potential of exposing many of the Genii people to high levels of radiation, Cowen failed to do anything about it. If he had acted immediately, many lives could have been spared, including -- at least to Idos -- Enver's, although it was probably already too late for her. Cowen's negligence showed Idos the man was unfit to lead the Genii people. And he was just as equally convinced that Kolya wasn't the man for the job either. He was too obsessed with the Atlanteans and their military commander John Sheppard in particular. Plus, Idos knew Kolya's reign would be a ruthless dictatorship. But, for the time being, Idos would remain where he was -- a mole in Kolya's inner circle, employed by Cowen -- keeping tabs on both men until an opportunity could present itself. In the interim, the Wraith came. Fortunately, the Genii were able to detected their approach in time and were able to shut down the underground reactors to avoid discovery. However, hundreds of lives on the surface were lost, including Idos' mother and brother-in-law. But his sister and infant nephew were spared, including the thousands in the underground complex. With the immanent threat of a Wraith culling over and the Dynex defeated, Cowen's ambitions changed. He became corrupt and power hungry, set upon rebuilding the Genii into the once powerful confederation it was, uniting the galaxy under a single ruler -- him. Kolya like wise had his eyes on the power seat. But a third player was emerging who, like Idos, saw the threat that both Cowen and Kolya posed to the Genii people. Idos knew that Kolya was planning to overthrow Cowen. But instead of giving that information directly to the Chief, he played his trump card and revealed it to Ladon Radim who was planning the same thing. This forced Ladon's hand into divulging the information to Cowen, causing Kolya to go underground. And with Kolya effectively out of the picture, Ladon staged a coup of his own. Idos had basically played all three sides against each other without them being aware of it. Idos soon found himself in the employment of the new regime. And while he supported many of things Ladon did for their people, such as accepting help from the Atlanteans in treating and curing many of the Genii of cancer -- and this despite the treatment they received from Cowen and Kolya, including the abduction and subsequent torture of Sheppard -- Idos didn't agree with everything. Like most military coups, anything having to do with the former regime or perceived as a threat to the new system of government were either neutralized, done away with, or contained. That included Erastus Kolya who had been labeled a traitor to the Genii people and imprisoned. No one was aware of Idos' connection to Erastus at the time -- that the former childhood friends were brothers -- and Idos viewed Erastus as a victim of circumstance. Therefore, Idos met covertly with one of Kolya's men and passed along the location of where his younger brother was being held. He even infiltrated the prison as one of the guards, using his skills of misdirection in order get everyone looking the other way while Koyla's team launched a full scale attack and extracted Erastus. After that incident, Idos' involvement was suspected but couldn't be proven. In addition, despite Idos having given Ladon a key piece of intel that helped clear the way for his coup, as one of Cowen's elite soldiers, Ladon never fully trusted him. Plus it didn't help that his sister, Dahlia, seemed to be developing an interest in him. Therefore, and in light of the recent run-ins the Atlanteans had been having with the Genii insurgence, Ladon sent Idos to the Ancestral city as a liaison between their two peoples. Idos mission was two fold, to help smooth the tensions in order to maintain their alliance, and to secretly collect intel on the Atlanteans. And while Ladon is fully aware that Idos could betray him or become a dual agent, he's banking on the man's close knit ties to his remaining family -- that as long as Idalis and her son remain on the Genii homeworld, he'll be able to keep Idos on a tight leash and control him. Weapons: Idos typically carries the standard Atlantean sidearm, the M92F Beretta -- because it's lighter and more compact than it's Genii cousin -- along with various combat knives. When out in the field he supplements his arsenal with the Atlantean P-90 submachine gun. He's been trained on all Genii weapons including the starndard sidearm, submachine gun (the Genii version of the Atlantean's P-90), and triple barrel shotgun. He also knows how to use both the Wraith stun pistols and stun rifles.
Special Skills/Training/Abilities/Education: Idos has had a moderate education -- about average for a Genii, but below the basic standards of Earth, especially regarding the sciences based on the Genii's level of technology -- attending the basic 'public' schools and later the Genii Military Academy. As an elite Genii soldier, Idos has been trained in and is well versed in many forms of hand-to-hand combat. He's quite adept with the bo staff, having been trained by Acatus Kolya himself. Idos is also highly skilled in subterfuge and espionage, and has received what can be called the equivalent to Navy SEAL training.
Medical History Allergies: Mild lactose intolerance and cat dander. Injuries/Illnesses: Idos in overall good health and has led a rather charmed life in regards to injuries -- especially considering his occupation.
- Suffered Kirsan fever -- a common childhood ailment of the Pegasus galaxy -- at the age of 5.
- Broke his left arm at the age of 10 from falling out of a tree while trying to sneak a peek into a girl's room.
- Nearly died at the age of 12 from alcohol poisoning after getting a hold of a jug of corn whiskey.
- Suffered a concussion from a severe beating at the age of 16 leveled upon him by a girl's jealous boyfriend and his friends.
- Had the crap beat out of him several times between the ages of 17-19 by Acastus Kolya while in fight training, mainly with the bo staff. Those injuries included cracked ribs, a dislocated shoulder, two fractured fingers, a strained wrist, a hyper extended elbow, a pulled hamstring, and a few stitches.
- Sustained several scalp lacerations -- some requiring stitches -- at the age of 20 after a beer bottle was smashed on his head during a drunken bar brawl over a girl.
Mental Health: Conflicted but stable -- Idos struggles with the problems presented to him regarding his brother Erastus. He suffers from a guilty conscious and in some ways feels responsible for the way his little brother turned out and wants to make amends -- save him before he lives up to his family name. Idos believes that if he had been there more for Erastus and hadn't cajoled him so much as a kid, that maybe he could have broken down the barriers of his harden shell. And if Idos had known the identity of his true father early on, he believes he could have some how spared Erastus' harsh treatment by Kolya. As the older son, much of what Erastus had gone through would have been leveled upon himself instead. Idos also regrets never having known his baby brother, the late Septus Kolya, or his younger sister Laodamia other than being the annoying little girl who used to follow him around like a lost puppy. Currently, the young woman is considered missing and Idos would very much like to find her. Eyesight: 20/20 Hearing: Excellent ATA Gene: Negative |
